Extending the Boundaries of Teacher Education through Corporate Internships

Richard J. Clark

University of Massachusetts

A full-time paid internship with a corporation that is part of a 15-month master's degree program for prospective teachers is described. Corporate educators are involved in recruitment, selection, teaching, placement, and supervision of prospective teachers. Interns learn how companies work and how to use that information with their students. They observe corporate educational practices and consider applications of those practices in schools. Evidence of the personal and professional benefits of participation in the program is provided from 5 years of experience with 100 graduates.
