Cognitive Styles and Multicultural Populations

James A. Anderson

Department of Psychology, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Recruiting minorities into the teacher education programs of historically white institutions will create new demands for pedagogical perspective and practice. Anderson describes the importance of recognizing the existence of cultural as sets and variations when dealing with non-white populations. Traditional in structional approaches will prove dys functional and anachronistic asserts the author. He describes how service deliv ery systems to multi-ethnic populations have been ineffective and why retention programs have failed.
